National WASH coalitions

On the ground, National Coordinators of WASH Coalitions in some 30 countries lead WSSCC's work, serving as coalition heads, spokespersons, and advocates for sanitation, hygiene and water supply issues.

Under the auspices of WSSCC, National Coordinators (NC) lead coalitions of like-minded professionals . They carry out national and local level networking, knowledge management, advocacy and communications activities and are involved in Global Sanitation Fund programme activities.

The National Coordinators serve in a voluntary capacity and are appointed by the Executive Director of WSSCC. They are respected, senior professionals in their own right.

WSSCC is currently going through a process of selection and appointment of new National Coordinators for a number of countries, in line with its new 2012-2016 Medium Term Strategic Plan (MTSP). Within this context, the purpose of the National Coordinator position is to ensure strategic engagement of WSSCC at the country level.

WSSCC liaises continually with the National Coordinators, helping the Secretariat to keep in touch with the realities of WASH issues in developing countries. National Coordinators also attend conferences, training sessions, and other events on behalf of WSSCC, and serve as spokespersons in the media.
