National WASH coalitions

In the WASH coalitions, WSSCC provides a neutral space in which individuals and organizations concerned with water, sanitation and hygiene for poor people can network and share ideas.

The WSSCC focuses on national level advocacy and coalition building for increased action, collaboration and political will for WASH issues. Currently WSSCC has National Coordinators in 35 countries, who represent the organization's heart and soul. They act as the focal point for country-level activities, including the facilitation of National WASH Coalitions' support for national-level coordination and networking.

National activities through WASH coalitions include:

  • Advocacy and awareness raising
  • Hygiene and sanitation education
  • Policy development
  • Monitoring progress and media collaboration
  • Applied research

WSSCC is also expanding its national activities through the Global Sanitation Fund to include the implementation of sanitation and hygiene projects in collaboration with longstanding local partners. Experiences from the implementation projects will directly feed into advocacy and policy development activities at both country and global level.
