Brazil's divide between rich and poor is reflected in huge variations in access to water and sanitation.

The disparity results in a big challenge for the country: the number of people with no access to improved sanitation is still 40 million.

Following the official launch of the Brazilian WASH campaign during the UN-HABITAT Day celebrations in October 2003, a WASH coalition was established with 10 partner organizations and over 20 associated groups. The WASH campaign is addressing the challenges of the very great disparity in Brazil in access to water and sanitation. It also supports awareness-raising and capacity building through disseminating information, encouraging meetings opportunities, and through celebrating global events.
