National WASH Coalition
After the official launch of the Brazilian WASH campaign during the UN-HABITAT Day celebrations in October 2003, a WASH coalition was established with 10 partner organizations and over 20 associated groups.
Focus
The WASH campaign is addressing the challenges of the very great disparity in Brazil in access to water and sanitation. It also supports awareness-raising and capacity building through disseminating information, encouraging meetings opportunities, and through celebrating global events.
Milestones and achievements
The coalition supported the establishment of the National Plan for Basic Sanitation, which was launched in 2007. The new National Campaign on Municipal Plans for Basic Sanitation, which should be ready by 2011, offers wide opportunities for many people to take part in its activities.
