Ethne Davey
Ms Davey works for the "Working for Water Programme" within the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry of South Africa. Her know-how includes grassroots development project design, implementation, policy/legislation development, advocacy and lobbying, representing the interests of civil society structures as well as within the context of the government. Noteworthy of her work are the HIV/AIDS programme and the interventions in nutrition and health and hygiene. Her position as Chairperson to the Gender Water Alliance has taken her responsibility to an international level. She transcends race, gender and cultural barriers and represents millions of women and children excluded from access to water and sanitation. She was previously involved in the Water for Food Movement, GWP Southern Africa Steering Committee, the South African National Water Tribunal, the National Water Advisory Council, the Kokstad Health Forum, the Eastern Cape Political Mediation Panel and being instrumental to get the acceptance of non-white pupils in Kokstad schools.
