The Collaborative Council is a unique organisation, both among other international collaborative bodies and in the water, sanitation and hygiene sector. WSSCC aims to represent the voices of the people. As a membership organisation, the Collaborative Council relies on a diverse and actively-engaged membership body both to direct and provide credibility for its work.
WSSCC's membership is the foundation upon which the organisation is built. WSSCC's Steering Committee, which provides direction to the Secretariat, is made up of individuals from the general WSSCC membership. Steering Committee members are also elected by the general membership, and represent a broad spectrum of geographic diversity and professional expertise.
Members of the Collaborative Council are committed to achieving sustainable access to safe water and adequate sanitation for all people. They come from technical, government and activist backgrounds, and represent the diverse groups of people working to make water, sanitation and hygiene global priorities, including NGOs, local and national governments, CBOs, academics, water and sanitation professionals, development professionals, and UN agencies.
People can become members of the Collaborative Council either in their individual capacity or on behalf of the organisation for which they work. In the latter case, WSSCC also welcomes other people in the same organisation to join, so they can enjoy the individual benefits of membership.

As part of its continued efforts to improve communication with and networking between its members, the Collaborative Council has launched an online registration system.
