Hurry up! 2.6 billion people lack access to adequate sanitation
A new set of advocacy materials has been developed to support the WASH campaign in addressing the current water and sanitation crisis, especially in light of the International Year of Sanitation 2008. The "Hurry up!" images, referring to the number of people lacking adequate sanitation some years ago, remain the core message. Sadly, if 2.4 billion people lacked access to adequate sanitation yesterday, they count 2.6 billion today. The need to hurry up is more urgent than ever.
The new WASH materials consist of:
Posters
All the posters are available in English, French and Spanish. They are being used at global level at the occasion of various meetings, workshops and conferences, and at local, or national, level, for the needs of national WASH Coalitions and their local advocacy initiatives.

Postcards
The postcards feature the same images as the posters and are available in English, French and Spanish.
Each set of postcards is accompanied by a message on a banderole and the cards are intended to be sent to national and local decision-makers responsible for water and sanitation issues.
"What if a postcard could save a life? These cards may shock you, but they can make a difference. Send them to the government officials responsible for water supply and sanitation and let them know how important these issues are to you and your environment. Make a difference by creating the political will to end the tragedy of inadequate water supply and sanitation. Take a stand, send a card, save a life!"

Stickers
This new set of WASH advocacy materials also includes stickers. They feature the core WASH message, "Hurry up! 2.6 billion people want to use the toilet", the lack of dignity and safety many women experience and the often fatal consequences of unhygienic living conditions. How comfortable would you feel if eyes were staring at you when nature calls? However, millions of women have to do it with an audience...
These stickers are especially created to be stuck on a toilet door, where can usually be found the toilet sign with a man or a woman. The eyes are used inside the toilet cabin, to emphasize the shame and the fear too many women experience every day while responding to the most basic of human needs. Therefore, accompanying the eyes, can be found another sticker that draws everyone's attention to the fact that "millions of women have to do it with an audience".
