  • Dissemination of information
  • Building partnerships
  • Advocacy

Major milestones and achievements

The WASH agenda has been endorsed by the national government of Colombia, as part of their commitment to fulfill the MDGs. Activities carried out under the WASH banner during the past four years have focused mainly on small municipalities and towns, and the rural areas and have involved publishing of information on the national water and sanitation situation, reviewing public policies and preparations for global events.

The main activity of the Colombian WASH coalition in 2008 was the production of a bulletin by communities for communities, through the AQUACOL, an association of public service providers. Following steps were taken:

1) Evaluation of existing publications of the WASH sector in Colombia, information needs investigated.

2) Principal Group formed and trained to develop its capacities in writing and research.

3) Building capacities of the Editorial Committee, designing strategies for the distribution and financing.

4) Standardization of the production, reflection and analysis of the annual work plan.

5) Delivery of the end item - Bulletin edition 01 -1000 copies of the bulletin was launched and distributed.

Challenges encountered in production were overcome and the publication received positive feedback from the readers.
