WASH coalition

The Guyanan coalition started its operations in 2008 with a WASH action programme. The two main partners in this action programme are Global Perspective, and the Environmental Health Unit of the Ministry of Health. The focus is on documenting current WASH practices, promote public awareness and foster collaboration between sector stakeholders in Guyana.

Main achievements

The activities in 2008 were dominated by the International Year of Sanitation for which communication materials were distributed at several media, exhibition and school events. Further activities included

  • Celebration of the Global Handwashing Day
  • Several radio and television information inputs on WASH issues
  • National and local WASH coalition meetings with focus on sanitation
  • Contribute to the draft of a strategic plan for the sanitation sector
