WASH Coalition building
With the National Coordinator based in the national Water Utility, a coalition has been established with the Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association (CWWA), Caribbean Environmental Health Institute (CEHI), Local Government and the Water Utility (WASA).
The coalition carries out WASH advocacy and awareness raising directed at the following target groups:
- Environmental Professionals
- Local Government Practictioners eg. Mayors, Councillors, Aldermen
- Water Utility Managers and Engineers
- NGOs
- Farmers
- Government Ministers (Public Utility and Agriculture Ministers)
Activities, Milestones and Major Achievements
The Coalition has:
- Held dialogues with WASH stakeholders
- Held a seminar with local governments, mayors, regional and city corporations
- Disseminated WASH literature to schools, water utilities, Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association
- Presented the WASH campaign at several local conferences from 2004 to present. These include a number of WSSCC seminars and workshops in Trinidad.
Focusing on impact, these activities have:
- Sensitised the target groups of the need for WASH
- Created awareness for water, sanitation and hygiene
- Empowered the groups with information on how they can assist
