  • Building partnerships
  • Advocacy

Major milestones and achievements

The WASH agenda has been endorsed by the national government of Colombia, through the Minister of Environment, Housing and Territorial Development, as part of their commitment to fulfill the MDGs. Activities carried out under the WASH banner have focused mainly on small municipalities and towns, and the rural areas. In addition to this, mass media has been used to raise overall awareness of the cause of water, sanitation and hygiene for all. Some examples of activities include:

  • In October 2004, a 16-page supplement carrying information on the water and sanitation situation in Colombia was published as special edition inside ‘Semana’, a well-known Colombian magazine with 75,000 subscribers and six million visitors to its web page.
  • With support from WSSCC, the Colombian Rural Public Policy document was reviewed by the National Coordinator and his team from the institute CINARA.
  • In November 2004, a WASH-STREAMS Regional Consultation was organized, in the run up to the Global WASH Forum in Dakar in November/December 2004.
