WASH Coalition building
MAMA 86 – the NGO that represents WSSCC in Ukraine – and its partners have focused their efforts on building a strong national level WASH coalition in order to consolidate stakeholders’ efforts to achieve the MDGs on water supply and sanitation and in promoting public involvement in policy-making processes.
Activities, Milestones and Major Achievements
In September 2004, a successful National Consultation was organized to strengthen the national coalition, and in October the first of a number of public hearings was organized on the draft of the State Program entitled «Drinking Water of Ukraine». These hearings served to raise awareness of, and ensure the public’s input into the governments’ new programme on drinking water supply.
As a result of these activities
- there is increased availability of and access to detailed information on the state of water supply and sanitation in Ukraine, specifically in schools;
- there is increased awareness among pupils, teachers and government representatives of the need to improve their hygiene education, water and sanitation facilities.
