Members of the National WASH Coalition
The WSSCC-Bangladesh chapter includes 36 organizations comprising national NGOs, international NGOs, UN organizations, government departments and donor agencies.
Focus
The chapter aims to create space for marginalized populations in accessing standard water and sanitation services and in the relevant decision-making processes.
Milestones and achievements
In the second half of 2004, the chapter initiated a process of grassroots consultations, leading to the organisation of a grassroots’ voice in response to the MDGs and the Government of Bangladesh' goal to achieve hundred percent sanitation by 2010. The overall objective of the Grass Root Consultations is to create an enabling environment, platform and a space for the grassroots poor people to share their ideas and opinions, and in that way to raise their voices, so that they reach the policy makers and are able to make a dent in the policy process. Specific objectives are
- to facilitate formation of a “National Grass Root Network”,
- to enhance and strengthen coordination among the partners (LGIs, Utility agencies, NGOs, Community People, Civil Society and Development Partners)
- to achieve hundred percent sanitation by 2010, and
- to consider multi stakeholder participation as one of the key principles in ensuring participation and engagement of marginalized people in the national sanitation campaign.
