Articles or broadcasts could be submitted in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian between 1 March 2009 and 1 April 2010.
Seven prizes have been awarded at the Awards Ceremony on 9 September 2010 at the World Water Week in Stockholm:
- English language category: Teresa Rehman, India, freelance, for journalistic excellence in "Sanitation in the times of floods".
- French language category: François Amegnignon, Togo, Radio Zéphyr, for journalistic excellence in "Etats des lieux de l'eau, hygiène et assainissement au Togo".
- Spanish language category: David Onofre González Travieso, diario El Nacional, Venezuela, for journalistic excellence in "Una sequía de obras".
- Portuguese language category: Arsénio Basilio Manhice, Jornal Noticias, Mozambique, for journalistic excellence in "Stress hídrico’ abala mulheres e crianças".
- Russian language category: Natalia Silitskaia & Oleg Banaru, freelance, Moldova, for journalistic excellence in "Damocles Sword above the Moldavian Komarovo".
- Gender category: Juana Salamanca, freelance, Colombia, for journalistic excellence in "Ángeles guardianes de los humedales".
- High income country category: Nina Stenros & Anu Valve, Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE, Finland, for journalistic excellence in “Shit happens, part 1/4”.
The winners received a cash prize and participated in the World Water Week in Stockholm from 5 to 10 September 2010 as special guests of WSSCC and SIWI.
The Panel of Judges for this competition, together with WSSCC and SIWI, wish to express their sincere appreciation to all participants. More than 180 entries from 40 countries were evaluated by the Panel, which was Chaired by Ms. Rose George, journalist and author of “The Big Necessity; Adventures in the World of Human Waste”, UK. The panel included Mr. Alister Doyle, Reuters News, UK; Mr. Jean Claude Napani, Radio Sawtu Linjiila, Cameroon; Mr. Fabrice Delaye, Bilan Magazine, Switzerland; Ms. María Sáinz García, El Mundo, Spain; Ms. Maria Teresa Ronderos, La Semana, Columbia; Mr. Gunnel Bergstrom, journalist, Sweden; Mr. Sergueï Mokrynin, Stan TV, Kyrgyzstan; and Ms. Càtia Toffoletto, Radio Sao Paulo, Brazil.
