[Translate to French:] WASH Presence at Africities
[Translate to French:] The 4th AfriCities Summit held from 18 to 24 September 2006 in Nairobi, Kenya, was truly a meeting of stakeholders. A platform for discussion and exchange, the Summit brought together major local government stakeholders from all over Africa with private sector companies, NGO's, the major UN agencies, and other international organizations to discuss how to best work together at the local level with the aim of attaining the MDGs in Africa.
Water and sanitation is one of the key issues that many local governments struggle with. In particular, they face a lack of knowledge and information on how to address water supply and sanitation services provision, including linkages to hygiene. WSSCC and the African WASH movement responded to this need with a joint information campaign at the Summit of the WSSCC secretariat and its regional representatives in Africa, NETWAS and CREPA. The three organizations attended the Summit's programmatic sessions and answered questions and requests from many local government officials and mayors in the well-visited WASH exhibition booth.
