This study covered twelve villages across Dumka, Deoghar and Saraikela Kharsawan districts in Jharkhand as part of the learning exercise.The observations and lessons elaborated in this note take into account the issues of equity in access to, and use and benefits of improved sanitation services in these three districts.

The Global Sanitation Fund in India supports demand driven community led interventions aimed at enabling access to and effective use of improved sanitation facilities and hygiene promotion at scale in select locations in Bihar, Assam and Jharkhand.

Diarrhoea is one of the leading causes of death in Liberia (WHO 2008). Over 40% of Liberia’s schools are unable to provide safe water for their pupils (WSP). US$1 investment in WASH can bring about US$9 return to Liberia’s economy (HDR 2006).On 22 March the WASH civil society Working Group in Liberia and sector partners organized a six kilometre walk to demand an end to the water crisis and corruption in water services. La coalition Diorano-WASH a tenu son Assemblée Générale annuelle les 21 et 22 février derniers. Une Assemblée Générale qui a réuni plus de 150 personnes travaillant dans le domaine de l’eau potable, hygiène et assainissement dans les 22 régions de Madagascar.

In Partnership with WaterAid Sierra Leone and Liberia, the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Network (WASH-Net) of Sierra Leone was officially launched on 15 February 2012, together with the WASH Manifesto Campaign by the Deputy Ministry of Energy and Water Resources at the British Council Auditorium.

Attended by members of the civil society, media, political parties, development partners and key ministries, agencies and departments, WASH-Net through its members nationwide further succeeded in attracting attendance and representation  from numerous local councils across Sierra Leone.

2012 is a critical year for Sierra Leone’s development; shaping the country’s political direction through the forthcoming elections on 27 November. As such this is an opportunity to engage a powerful citizen’s engagement movement that makes voices and votes count in elections; in other words, using elections as tools to demand commitments that ushers much-needed change within the WASH sector.

 

The Framework for the WASH Coalition in the Pacific has been designed to support the implementation of water and sanitation initiatives in the Pacific region. It advocates for water supply, sanitation and hygiene campaigns, and  acknowledges the need for physical infrastructure developments that are required to improve access to safe water and adequate sanitation for communities based in the Pacific region.
