Popular Indian actress Vidya Balan joined the ranks of Shah Rukh Khan and became the celebrity face for sanitation campaigns in India. As a brand ambassador she will help to fight open defecation, promote sanitation and appeal to communities to help improve their health, livelihoods and security.

Sustainable Sanitation: The Drive to 2015 - slogan competition

The Sanitation Drive to 2015 is an advocacy campaign working to meet the Millennium Development Goal sanitation target and end open defecation. It seeks to support and inspire people from around the world to take action towards achieving sanitation and hygiene for all by targeting the poorest and most vulnerable people. These actions will generate substantial benefits, including increased economic growth and productivity, improved health, enhanced social equity, and a cleaner environment.

WSSCC launches social media competition - the winner will receive an Ipod Touch

WSSCC has launched a competition to encourage its Members to make full use of its social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkeIn to help advocate on critical sanitation issues. The competition ends on 30 April and the winner will receive an Apple Ipod Touch.

New GLAAS Report published

While access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) has considerably improved globally, services coverage could slip behind if adequate resources are not secured to sustain routine operations, warns the 2012 UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water – or “GLAAS” – released today by WHO and UN-Water. The report calls for additional and more targeted resources, especially for routine operation and maintenance of existing systems and services (report is available at http://bit.ly/HCDfw5).
