The Sanitation Drive to 2015 is an advocacy campaign working to meet the Millennium Development Goal sanitation target and end open defecation. It seeks to support and inspire people from around the world to take action towards achieving sanitation and hygiene for all by targeting the poorest and most vulnerable people. These actions will generate substantial benefits, including increased economic growth and productivity, improved health, enhanced social equity, and a cleaner environment.

The Cambodia Rural Sanitation and Hygiene Improvement Programme (CR-SHIP), funded by the Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) delivered a training of trainers (ToT) on Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), SC-WASH and Sanitation Marketing in April 2012.

Serious commitments announced yesterday will extend access to sustainable sanitation facilities and improved drinking water sources to millions more people.

WSSCC has launched a competition to encourage its Members to make full use of its social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkeIn to help advocate on critical sanitation issues. The competition ends on 30 April and the winner will receive an Apple Ipod Touch.

On and around World Water Day on 22 March, almost 400,000 people from all across the globe joined to walk for water and sanitation and demanded commitments and actions from decision-makers. Thank you for being part of this global movement!

While access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) has considerably improved globally, services coverage could slip behind if adequate resources are not secured to sustain routine operations, warns the 2012 UN-Water Global Analysis and Assessment of Sanitation and Drinking-Water – or “GLAAS” – released today by WHO and UN-Water. The report calls for additional and more targeted resources, especially for routine operation and maintenance of existing systems and services (report is available at http://bit.ly/HCDfw5).

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) established the Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) to provide grant support to scale up successful sanitation and hygiene approaches targeting poor people in areas of greatest need.
