Now also in Nepali: Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies

Clean toilets save lives. But with billions of people lacking access to basic sanitation around the world, which toilet best meets each person's and family's need? Since 2008, one of the most popular guidebooks used to help answer that question has been the Compendium of Sanitation Systems and Technologies. Now, the Guidebook, published by the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology (Eawag) and WSSCC, is available in Nepali, complementing the English, French and Spanish versions available.

Evaluating the health impact of urban sanitation programmes

A key justification for investment in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is to reduce the burden of diseases transmitted by the faecal-oral route, most notably child diarrhoea. This paper advocates for more widespread health impact evaluation which can contribute in a number of ways to imporved effectiveness.

Much has been done in providing sanitation services and facilities by numerous key stakeholders like Governments, Donors, NGOs and even community based organizations. However, the realization that we are still a long way from experiencing total sanitation especially in urban areas despite the numerous interventions supported by government institutional and legal frameworks was stark!
