Summary

After WASH merged with the End Water Poverty Now campaign in 2007, the new coalition launched the Sanitation Phase of the campaign with World Toilet Day. In 2008, they also organized a petition to influence the AU Summit and the G8 Summit, organized a press caravan, and celebrated International Hand Washing Day. Next steps for the Mali coalition include organizing a fundraising activity, launching the new phase of the campaign, and more capacity building training for civil society networks to engage in advocacy.

About the author

Promoting a public dialogue on sanitation and hygiene is a major activity of the WASH Coalition in Mali. Merging with the End Water Poverty Now campaign in 2007, the CIEPA/WASH Coalition, (la Campagne Internationale pour l'Eau potable et l'Assainissement) has created a unified voice raising visibility and involved stakeholders. The main goal of the CIEPA/WASH Coalition is to increase sustainable access to adequate water and sanitation services for vulnerable people through advocacy, campaigning and policy support.
