About the author

Established in 2004, the WASH Ethiopia Coalition unites a host of national and international organizations and NGOs, coordinated by WaterAid. The coalition recently created regional chapters to help it promote WASH issues throughout the country. Shortly thereafter, it changed its name to WASH Ethiopia Movement to emphasize the need for social mobilization in WASH. Local communities are at the centre of activities. These groups contribute to, and take part in WASH events, community discussions, WASH radio programmes, and meetings with key actors. The movement chooses a theme each year.  For its efforts the movement received the AfricaSan Award in 2009.
