Summary

Cameroon has a newly established WASH coalition which was formally launched in May 2009. This marked the end of a process which had begun the previous year. The coalition will initially work to support the government in establishing a sanitation policy and in sector coordination. This presentation contains photos from the official launch.

About the author

Lack of cooperation among stakeholders in the WASH sector was the spark that incited the WASH Coalition in Cameroon in 2008. The following year a WASH Coalition comprising national and international partners began promoting WASH for all by encouraging the government to finance and prioritize actions on all levels. Objectives of the coalition include launching a qualitative survey of the attitudes and practices of the rural population on WASH (and thereby raising awareness); assisting the government to establish a national sanitation plan; and building partnerships at all levels.
