Summary

In 2004, the objectives of Diorano-WASH were to promote three key WASH messages, advocate for the prioritization of the sector, ensure the integration of hygiene and sanitation into the water supply projects, ensure the adoption of safe practices by children, and support the government for the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. Challenges that remained included communication among committees, conflicting interests, and mobilization of resources at the local level.

About the author

Called Diorano-WASH, Madagascar’s WASH Coalition includes members from myriad groups. It focuses on improving hygiene behaviour three key messages: wash your hands with soap; use hygienic latrines; and transport and store water safely. The coalition also works alongside the government: it contributed to the Madagascar Action Plan, National Sanitation Policy and Strategy, and the National Programme of Access to Potable Water and Sanitation.
