Summary

The Diorano-WASH charter was approved by the government in January 2008. The charter aims to govern Diorano-WASH activities at all levels. The Madagascar Action Plan (MAP) set forward goals that all children will have to be educated in safe sanitary and hygienic practices, infant mortality due to water related diseases will be significantly decreased, and the number of lost working days and school days will be significantly decreased.

About the author

Called Diorano-WASH, Madagascar’s WASH Coalition includes members from myriad groups. It focuses on improving hygiene behaviour three key messages: wash your hands with soap; use hygienic latrines; and transport and store water safely.

 

The coalition also works alongside the government: it contributed to the Madagascar Action Plan, National Sanitation Policy and Strategy, and the National Programme of Access to Potable Water and Sanitation.
