Summary

The Jamaica WASH Coalition’s 2007 report said a 2005 conference had seen specific WASH programmes undertaken by 10 community-based organisations, two NGOs, three public sector agencies and three development agencies. Working papers had considered Gender Issues in Water & Sanitation in Jamaica, Sanitation & Hygiene in Six Rural Communities, and Sanitation Policy for Jamaica. Training had involved behaviour change training for WASH promoters; gender and WASH workshops; community consultations on draft sanitation policy; and community sensitization on various sanitation solutions. Lessons learned included the vital need for research, and – “remember gender!”
