Summary

In 2009, innovative approaches were adopted to help the residents of Banja achieve 100% sanitation coverage. First, awareness was raised for the need for sanitation facilities. Then, key community figures were persuaded to be the first to build and use these sanitation facilities. Finally, health extension workers worked to ensure everyone felt responsible and a sense of ownership of the facilities they built.
