Summary

Mali was being served by two overlapping campaign groups, the WASH campaign (launched in 2005) and the End Water Poverty campaign (2007). After they decided to merge, a ceremony was held in the presence of the Head of State where the two campaigns joined forces. Benefits have included the positive impact of the synergies they have achieved together, proper follow-up at all levels, and their ability to close the loop between campaigning and advocacy.

About the author

Promoting a public dialogue on sanitation and hygiene is a major activity of the WASH Coalition in Mali. Merging with the End Water Poverty Now campaign in 2007, the CIEPA/WASH Coalition, (la Campagne Internationale pour l'Eau potable et l'Assainissement) has created a unified voice raising visibility and involved stakeholders. The main goal of the CIEPA/WASH Coalition is to increase sustainable access to adequate water and sanitation services for vulnerable people through advocacy, campaigning and policy support.
