Summary

In 2009, the Tanzania WASH Coalition concentrated on increased coordination between ministries (Education, Health, Water and Local Government); advocating for increased transparency and better allocation of the budget for sanitation and hygiene; and capacity building. With partners, it held a media sensitization workshop. A WASH Coalition was established in Zanzibar and proposed conducting a survey to identify the status of water, sanitation, and hygiene in schools. The dialogue created through meetings and the media was useful in creating awareness and gaining stakeholders’ commitment.
