Summary

WASH Myanmar is the country’s community-operated WASH promotion programme. Its activities have focused on the Four Cleans Festivals, the Global Handwashing and World Toilet Days, community-based arsenic mitigation, and total sanitation in project communities. It has concentrated particularly on home hygiene, strategic communication on climate change and disaster preparation, integrated water resources management, and school hygiene. It has produced books for the elderly and for children and primary students, both in the national language, and has secured prime-time TV coverage.

About the author

The Myanmar WASH Coalition maintains informal cooperation among the sector to strengthen communities’ promotion of WASH activities.  The Coalition devotes great efforts to promoting hygiene as one of the most cost-effective approaches to achieving improved health, especially in emergencies.  More specifically it seeks to organize women’s and youth groups to participate in the global WASH campaign.
