Summary

The Benin WASH Program developed strategic alliances in the sector, and raised funds locally. It took part in the National Days of Sanitation and in the National Energy and Water Exhibition. It worked with the media and promoted WASH in schools. Meetings held included a number with a partnership promoting hand washing with soap and water.

About the author

Begun in 2007, Benin’s WASH Coalition comprises members from the government, NGOs, the Benin Water Partnership, and Municipal Development Partnership. Towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) for sanitation and water, the coalition has initiated WASH programmes in schools and villages in Grand-Popo; raised the profile of WASH issues among the public and journalists; and published Livre Bleu, an advocacy and monitoring report – an important tool to ensure Benin implements the eThekwini Declaration from AfricaSan+5.
