Summary
The Water Supply and Sanitation Study is a new qualitative analysis of the legislative and institutional basis in Tajikistan, and was based on the previous Water Management Study in Tajikistan prepared by the “Oxfam GB” Association in 2007.
This study is focused on assessing development trends in the sub-sector, and provides recommendations in following areas:
- Ownership and sustainability of water supply systems;
- Roles and opportunities for the participation of communities and the private sector in managing water supply and sanitation systems;
- Water tariffs: justification, cost recovery and efficiency; and
- Analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats (SWOT) of stakeholders in water supply and sanitation sub-sector.
