Origins and rationale of network
Established in 2001, building on two large-scale hand washing promotion programmes: Programma Saniya in Burkina Faso and the Central American Handwashing for Diarrheal Disease Prevention Program. From 2002 onwards other countries were added, giving a total of 15.
Objectives
The PPPHW works to make hand washing a common practice in homes, schools and communities worldwide.The PPPHW also seeks to promote awareness, build political commitment, and trigger action on this critical issue at local, national, and international levels.
