Origins and rationale of network
In response to appeals for action on the ground at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) in South Africa, RAIN started in December 2003.
Objectives
To increase access to water for vulnerable sections of society in developing countries - women and children in particular - by collecting and storing rainwater.
RAIN focuses on field implementation of small-scale rainwater harvesting projects, capacity building of local organisations and knowledge exchange on rainwater harvesting on a global scale.
Key partner organizations
Rainwater Harvesting Capacity Centre (RHCC) in Ethiopia (Ethiopian Rainwater Harvesting Association), Nepal (BSP-Nepal) and Burkina Faso (CCEP -Centre d'Expertise en Collecte des Eaux de Pluies) with local partner and implementation organizations.
Further partners are AKVO, IWA, Warwick University, Netherlands Water Partnership, Acacia Water.
