Origins and rationale of network
Originally established in 1992 as the Handpump Technology Network (HTN), in 2004 it broadened its mandate and adopted the current title. In 2003, the HTN Forum in Durban, South Africa endorsed the relevance of the network on rural water supply giving a new, broader thematic vision and identity including three flagship activities.
Objectives
RWSN’s objective is to catalyse vibrant knowledge exchange between the most active rural water supply actors and thus strengthen the sustainability, efficiency and effectiveness of rural water service delivery.Four flagship themes are pursued in the field: self supply, cost-effective boreholes, sustainable rural water supplies and handpump technologies.
