Origins and rationale of network
Established as an international effort to improve aid effectiveness in the field of water research, in line with Paris Declaration principles.
Objectives
1) Coordinate between existing programmes to minimize duplication and identify gaps.
2) Ensure that good research management practice is known and used.
3) Agree on a research agenda and jointly funded activities which can benefit from a transnational approach, with European partners working together.
4) Improve knowledge sharing between researchers and practitioners to speed up the transfer of research findings into policy and practice.
The concept of SPLASH represents state of the art practice relating to the coordination of European research on water in developing countries, and works under the European Water Initiative (EUWI).
