A National Sanitation Conference entitled BanglaSan 2011 took place from 05-06 January 2011 at Osmani Memorial Conference Hall in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

The conference was organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives to prepare an action plan at the national level to ensure hygienic sanitation for all by 2013 in line with the election pledge of the Awami League and the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

In the BanglaSan 2011 Declaration, the government expressed its commitment to  carryout a National Sanitation Census soon to get a real scenario of the state of the sanitation. It further states that a special sanitation programme would be implemented by giving priority to underprivileged areas particularly, for the people of hilly areas, islands, tea-gardens, shanties, disaster-prone areas and poverty-stricken areas.

The chief guest, Minister for Education Nurul Islam Nahid, emphasized during his speech in the concluding ceremony the need for creating mass awareness about the necessity of good hygiene.

About 2,000 representative from government, NGOs, local elected representatives, professionals and  grassroots people attended the conference.
