In June 2011, the first GSF-funded "triggerings" using the Community-Led Total Sanitation Approach took place in the village of Antanandava, Madagascar, by the the non-governmental organization ASOS.

ASOS is an NGO which has health, hygiene, sanitation, construction and rural development expertise. Its mission is to help build the capacity of the communities in order to maintain and promote health.

In May, it was awarded a four-year regional GSF grant of $399,679 to carry out sanitation- and hygiene-related work in the region of Analanjirofo.

By 12 July 2011, some 34 "triggerings" have taken place in villages by three of the sub-grantees in Madagascar.
