New WSSCC report calls for improved harmonisation and coordination in the WASH sector

The drive for improved coordination between development agencies became a top priority after both the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness of 2005 and the Accra Agenda for Action in 2008 warned that the duplication of efforts by donors placed an unnecessary burden on partner countries and ultimately impinged potential development results.

“This report is important as it highlights the outcomes from a rare meeting that brought together a core group of partners working on capacity, knowledge and documentation in WASH for the purposes of formulating a shared plan of action,” said Carolien Van der Voorden, Senior Programme Officer for Networking and Knowledge Management at WSSCC.

WSSCC among participants at April 11 Sanitation and Water for All meeting, where ministers and influencers aim to accelerate WASH progress

On April 11, the Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) partnership will hold its High Level Meeting 2014 in Washington, D.C. SWA is a global partnership of over 90 developing country governments, donors, civil society organizations and other development partners working together to catalyse political leadership and action, improve accountability and use scarce resources more effectively. Partners work towards a common vision of universal access to safe water and adequate sanitation.

22 March- World Water Day 2014: fewer cases of diarrhea for this family with three generations all with latrines in Mbacké, Senegal

Diabou and her 10-year-old child used to have diarrhea, but after a triggering session, when the health team explained to everyone in the village about the campaign to end open-defecation, she spoke to her husband about getting a toilet of their own. They dug a pit and lined it with tires, Diabou cleans it daily and shows it off with pride.

UN Women and Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council in partnership to improve access to hygiene and sanitation for women and girls

On the margins of International Women's Day commemoration across Senegal and West and Central Africa, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (UN Women) and the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) have formed an official partnership. The aim is to take action and to strengthen policies in health, hygiene and sanitation in order to contribute to improving economic and social living conditions for women and girls in West and Central Africa.

What a day! UN partners WSSCC and OHCHR gather diverse stakeholders to foreground sanitation, rights and dignity for women

Grass-roots activists shared inspirational experiences on reducing female circumcision in Senegal, raising awareness of lesbian and transgender issues in Nepal and working for the dignity of sex workers in India at a special meeting at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on Friday.
