Grass-roots activists shared inspirational experiences on reducing female circumcision in Senegal, raising awareness of lesbian and transgender issues in Nepal and working for the dignity of sex workers in India at a special meeting at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva on Friday.

WASH Ethiopia Movement steps-up its efforts towards improved sanitation and hygiene

Members of the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) Ethiopia Movement (WEM), policymakers, business and partners including representatives of the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and WaterAid gathered in Adama, Ethiopia from 6 to 8 August to develop a WEM strategic action plan that is aimed at improving their collective efforts in the sector.

Ethiopia receives new boost of investment in sanitation and hygiene

Ethiopia will receive an additional boost from the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) which officially announced a US$ 5 million investment through its Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) to help the government of Ethiopia achieve its Universal Access Plan in Sanitation and Hygiene. 1.7 million additional people will have toilets because of the new GSF.
