Turning words into actions - After the 2012 SWA High Level Meeting

Sanitation and Water for All (SWA) held its second global High Level Meeting (HLM) in April 2012.  Ministers of development co-operation, finance, water and sanitation and representatives of the world’s leading water and sanitation agencies (over 80 in all), including 45 developing country governments, mainly in Africa and Asia, attended the meeting or were engaged in the preparatory dialogue process.  The SWA secretariat have been working hard to gather together a comprehensive set of outcome documents so that all sector actors have the information they need in order to follow up on commitments made at the meeting. Technical Note - Cleaning wells

Wells cleaning and disinfection is an innovative approache which was started by IRSP, Pakistan with the financial and technical support of SCD in flood-affected districts Charsadda and Nowshehra, where more than 50% of population were dependant upon  dug wells for drinking water. These wells were severely contaminated and destroyed by the flood waters in July 2010. The initial phase of project enabled 2,200 housholds (26,000 population aprox.) to access clean drinking water via rehabilitation, cleaning and disinfection of wells.
