This report is an independent evidence-based analysis of how water can be addressed in a developing agenda beyond 2015. Its formulation, and the underlying study, was undertaken by UNOSD, UNU-INWEH and SEI as a way of addressing the information gaps and providing background information that can be used by the UN member states and other stakeholders in negotiations.

19th November 2013, New York - A collaborative approach between governments, civil society and business is essential to getting the Millennium Development Goal sanitation target back on track. This is critical to improve the health and prosperity of women worldwide, says a new report jointly published by the United Nations hosted organisation Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council, international development organisation WaterAid and Unilever’s leading toilet brand Domestos.

World Toilet Day gets UN Recognition

The international community is showing its commitment to making sanitation a global development priority by recognising ‘World Toilet Day’ (WTD) on 19 November as an official United Nations day for the first time, a move welcomed by the Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC).

Progress on Drinking Water and Sanitation: 2012 Update

The WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme for Water Supply and Sanitation, known as the JMP, reports every two years on access to drinking water and sanitation worldwide and on progress towards related targets under Millennium Development Goal 7. This 2012 report is based on data gathered from household surveys and censuses, including both recent and older data sets that have come to the attention of the JMP. The estimates presented here describe the situation as of end-2010 and supersede those of the JMP update published in March 2010.

Progrès en Matière d’Alimentation en Eau et d’Assainissement - Rapport 2012

Le Programme commun OMS/UNICEF de suivi de l’approvisionnement en eau et de l’assainissement, ou JMP, publie tous les deux ans un rapport sur l’accès à l’eau potable et à l’assainissement dans le monde, ainsi que sur les progrès réalisés vis-à-vis de la cible afférente à l’objectif du Millénaire pour le développement n° 7. Le rapport 2012 se fonde sur les données collectées lors d’enquêtes auprès des ménages et de recensements et inclut des ensembles de données à la fois récents et anciens dont le JMP a eu connaissance. Les estimations présentées ici décrivent la situation à la fin de l’année 2010 et remplacent celles que le JMP avait publiées dans sa version de mars 2010.

Toilet Talk - GSF India Spurring Action & Dialogue for Health & Hygiene

The Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) in India has been raising awareness on the importance of sanitary hygiene practices and use of latrines in rural areas of Jharkhand, Bihar and Assam. NRMC India, Executing Agency of GSF in India, recognises the importance of public dialogue on this matter. This issue shares some of NRMC's work with the media and updates on programme activities. Articles by Indira Khurana and Swati Sahi in mainstream media are reproduced for wider sharing. The centerpiece of this newsletter is Anand Shekhar, Team Leader GSF India, in conversation with OneWorld South Asia on challenges of bringing people sustainable santitaton.
