WSSCC recently conducted an election for the vacant South Asia seat on the governing Steering Committee. The winner of the election was Mr. Umesh Pandey fro
m Nepal, who earned 153 votes compared to 109 for Mr. Aniruddhe Mukerjee.
The election was held during June-July and the results were announced on 11 July. The whole electoral process was carefully scrutinised and validated by the Election Committee, a sub-committee of the Steering Committee. Seventy-five percent of the 349 WSSCC members in South Asia voted, a record turnout for an organizational election.
Mr. Pandey's term of office begins with immediate effect, and he will serve for three years. WSSCC congratulates both candidates for having stood, and the members, for excercising their right to vote in WSSCC's governance process.
"Now I have been bestowed upon with responsibility by the representatives of two-thirds of the world’s poorest people living without WASH services to engage and contribute in WSSCC’s work to enable them to meet their needs," said Mr. Pandey upon learning the results. "I am excited with this responsibility."
