The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) has specified in its Medium Term Strategic Plan 2012-2016 that all programmes funded by WSSCC’s Global Sanitation Fund (GSF) are subject to independent mid-term and five-year evaluations. These evaluations are aligned with the overall GSF financing mechanism, which is based on a five-year programme cycle.
The Uganda Water and Sanitation NGO Network UWASNET was the host of the first East Africa Civil Society Forum, which took place in Kampala from 16 to 18 April. The Forum was jointly organized by WSSCC, WaterAid East Africa, End Water Poverty, Sanitation and Water for All and the African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation ANEW.
With over 6,000 participants and 13 themes covering all aspects of women’s empowerment, Women Deliver is an exciting global initiative with high-level support from governments, companies, NGOs and United Nations entities worldwide. WSSCC will be highlighting the WASH sector’s important role in women’s empowerment and women’s health at Women Deliver and will convene cross-sector dialogue about Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)- further breaking the silence and taboos surrounding this important issue.

Women and girls have distinct needs that are often overlooked in debate, policy and planning in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and health sectors. Making connections: Women, sanitation and health brought, on the 29th April 2013, together a diverse mix of academics, journalists, practitioners and activists from the WASH and gender sectors to present and debate critical issues on gender, sanitation and health. The event also included the launch of SHARE and WaterAid's new Menstrual Hygiene Matters resource.
On April 19, UN Deputy Secretary-General (DSG), Jan Eliasson, UNICEF Executive Director Anthony Lake, World Bank Group Vice President of Sustainable Development Rachel Kyte, and American Standard Senior Vice President Jim McHale had an online conversation with key global decision makers about the economics and politics of sanitation. At the same time, Jan Eliasson, announced the 2014 SWA High Level Meeting (HLM).
Key Resource Centre at Uttarakahnd Academy of Administration organized the national workshop on Community-Led approaches in the context of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan (NBA), in collaboration with WSSCC with the support of Ministry of Drinking Water & sanitation, Government of India.
