WSSCC's partners in India formally launched the Global Sanitation Fund in the country at an event in Ranchi, Jharkhand, at the Hotel Capitol Hill on 28 April 2011. The launch was being organized by the GSF' Executing Agency NR International and featured a number of representatives from the government and sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The $5 million fund aims to promote sustainable sanitation in rural India and focuses its efforts in the States of Assam and Jharkhand. The programme seeks to respond to fundamental challenges in the Indian rural sanitation sector and is consistent with the core principles espoused by the Government of India (GoI).
