This planner’s guide is designed to provide materials for executing the first Global Handwashing Day on 15 October 2008. The guiding vision of Global Handwashing Day is a local and global culture of hand washing with soap. Global Handwashing Day will be the centerpiece of a week of activities that will mobilize millions of people in more than 20 countries to wash their hands with soap. Overall, the event is designed to introduce the idea of Global Handwashing Day and being the process of yearly commemoration, shine a spotlight on the state of hand washing in each country, and raise awareness about the benefits of hand washing with soap.
