Summary

WASH practices are essential for maintaining people's health and dignity, yet the knowledge and tools that make improved WASH practices possible are beyond the means of many people, especially people living with HIV (PLHIV). This document systematically brings together information on integrating WASH and HIV to assist in country-level programming. It contains guidance on implementing priority WASH practices, including WASH in global and national HIV/AIDS policy and guidance, and integrating WASH-HIV programmes. The priority actions to integrate into national HIV programmes include: treating and safely storing drinking water; promoting hand washing; handling and dispose of faeces safely; managing menstruation; and promoting personal cleanliness of PLHIV and their environment.
