Summary

In schools the disposal of sanitary cloth and napkins in toilets is a critical challenge. The lack of proper means to dispose of sanitary napkins in a safe manner, often means that toilets cannot function properly and effectively. The disposal of sanitary napkins in toilets or in garbage dumps and in the open can damage the functionality of toilets, as well as create serious health problems. There is an imminent need to address this important sanitary waste disposal challenge effectively and to ensure that potential solutions are cost effective and simple to enable composite waste disposal for the school environment.

In Tamil Nadu, an innovative low-cost technology incinerator has been developed for the proper disposal of sanitary waste. The design is simple, safe and cost effective.
