The focus of this guide is gender mainstreaming and IWRM. This resource guide divides the resources among 13 water subsectors to facilitate access for specific purposes and water uses. The guide is a reference document to assist water and gender practitioners and professionals as well as persons responsible for gender mainstreaming. The guide includes an overview of current debates and gender issues, as well as references, manuals and guidelines, case studies, and relevant websites. It aims to facilitate access to available literature and resources, improve understanding and awareness of gender concepts, and improve approaches to the planning, implementation, management and monitoring of IWRM.
The mission of the Gender and Water Alliance (GWA) is to promote women’s and men’s equitable access to and management of safe and adequate water, for domestic supply, sanitation, food security and environmental sustainability. GWA believes that equitable access to and control over water is a basic right for all, as well as a critical factor in promoting poverty eradication and sustainability. www.genderandwater.org
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is the United Nation's global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources to help people build a better life. UNDP is on the ground in 166 countries, working with them on their own solutions to global and national development challenges. In each country office, the UNDP Resident Representative normally also serves as the Resident Coordinator of development activities for the United Nations system as a whole. Through such coordination, UNDP seeks to ensure the most effective use of UN and international aid resources. www.undp.org
