Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) offers in this Factsheet an overview of possible climate change mitigation and adaptation measures related to sanitation. Sanitation systems can be operated to produce renewable energy in the forms of either biogas or biomass, and if they are reuse-oriented o energy savings through mitigation measures such as energy and nutrient recovery. Emission trading may bring an additional financial benefit. Sustainable sanitation concept can also be introduced as adaptation measure in scenarios of water scarcity and flooding.
The Sustainable Sanitation Alliance (SuSanA) is a loose network of organizations working on common issues and is open to others active in the promotion of sustainable sanitation systems. The overall goal of the SuSanA is to contribute to the achievement of the MDGs by promoting sanitation systems which take into consideration all aspects of sustainability. www.susana.org/
