Summary

The objectives of a water safety plan are to ensure safe drinking water through good water supply practice. It should work to prevent contamination of source waters, to treat the water to reduce or remove contamination that could be present, and to prevent re-contamination during storage, distribution, and handling of drinking water. The focus of this document is the development and implementation of water safety plans to be used by the water supplier. It also provides guidance on how water safety plans can be developed for a range of water supply types.
