Liberia CSOs Working Group 2012 World Water Day Campaign report

Diarrhoea is one of the leading causes of death in Liberia (WHO 2008). Over 40% of Liberia’s schools are unable to provide safe water for their pupils (WSP). US$1 investment in WASH can bring about US$9 return to Liberia’s economy (HDR 2006).On 22 March the WASH civil society Working Group in Liberia and sector partners organized a six kilometre walk to demand an end to the water crisis and corruption in water services. Implementation of Nepal's Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan

It is estimated that Nepal bears an annual loss of about 10 billion rupees in terms of health expenses, loss of productivity and decline in tourism caused by poor sanitation condition (SCNSA 2000). In response to this, The Government of Nepal formulated the Sanitation and Hygiene Master Plan 2011. This paper examines how this ambitious and well designed plan will be implemented on the ground.

Technical Note - Cleaning wells

Wells cleaning and disinfection is an innovative approache which was started by IRSP, Pakistan with the financial and technical support of SCD in flood-affected districts Charsadda and Nowshehra, where more than 50% of population were dependant upon  dug wells for drinking water. These wells were severely contaminated and destroyed by the flood waters in July 2010. The initial phase of project enabled 2,200 housholds (26,000 population aprox.) to access clean drinking water via rehabilitation, cleaning and disinfection of wells.
