Mark Willis

Mark was previously a Senior Fund Portfolio Manager at The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. There he managed large grants to several countries in West Africa,  including negotiating contracts, monitoring the performance of country projects, coordinating with many other stakeholders, developing policy and strategy, and managing a team of staff. Before joining The Global Fund, Mark worked with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies as Senior Regional Officer for West and Central Africa and as the Relief Coordinator for Azerbaijan and Armenia. He has worked internationally throughout his career, starting with postings in Gabon and Madagascar for the US Peace Corps and the US Agency for International Development respectively. Mark has also owned and operated his own company in the United States. 

Mark has expressed his excitement at taking up this new challenge. “I’m keen to use the skills and experience I’ve gained at The Global Fund and apply them to another important health and development issue. The Global Sanitation Fund has been established according to solid principles and is already active in a number of countries. I look forward to building on this firm foundation to grow the Fund and achieve significant results that benefit the people in greatest need.”

Mark holds American and French citizenship and was educated in the United States and holds a Master’s Degree in International Management from McGill University in Montreal. He is married with two children.
