A National WASH Media Award programme was organized in Nepal on 27 November 2009 in an effort to motivate and inspire journalists covering sanitation issues in different parts of the country. Six journalists representing the five development regions were each awarded a cash prize of NRs. 7,500 for their best sanitation story by a jury panel from the Nepal Press Institute, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) and Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH).
“Awards like these help recognize your efforts and also place additional responsibility on your shoulders,” said Mr. Dharmendra Jha, President of FNJ, encouraging the winning journalists, also emphasizing the important role media could play in reaching people at the grassroots level with health and sanitation messages.
